10 hour Perpetua Bank pelagic trip, 0700-1700
From Newport, Oregon, offshore WSW 40 miles to 32 miles off Yachats, then NNE 10 miles to 24 miles west of Newport
Seas: low swell; mild winds 5-12 knots. Skies partially cloudy.

For the first time this year we finally had nice weather! This resulted in good birds for the 28 participants on The Bird Guide’s 10-hour pelagic trip on October 8, 2011 from Newport, Oregon.
About 25 miles west of Newport we encountered 2 smaller fishing vessels engaged in long lining. The boats accounted for the greater number of albatrosses and fulmars.
Early in the trip observers on the bow were able to watch a distant BLUE WHALE dive. Those of us in the stern missed it, unfortunately....
