Another deep water success! THREE very rare species of STORM-PETRELS and 5 rare summer LAYSAN ALBATROSSES!

This trip was designed to look for rare birds in deep water over 50 miles from shore. The rare birds were not far offshore on this trip but, rather, the result of a fishing vessel 28 miles offshore. The trip stopped on the way out, recording the LAYSAN ALBATROSSES. The pelagic birders then went 60 miles offshore and then came back to where the fishing vessel was previously loading its catch. The STORM-PETRELS were working over the area for small tidbits after the fishing vessel and larger birds left.

Bob Archer recorded some photos, including WILSON'S STORM-PETREL, here. He also added BLACK STORM-PETREL photos by Bob Lockett to the bottom of the report.
